Madam Chino will be presenting T-Yarn Factory at Milwaukee's new THIRD COAST STYLE located in Downtown Milwaukee's Fashion District on Water Street between Michigan and Saint Paul, a T-shirt transformative experience for young and old!

T-SHIRT YARN FACTORY
Learn the tricks to creating continuous strands of your own yarn from tubular bodices of clothing and flat swaths of scrap fabric, and spooling them. Learn to crochet by hand or with large hooks to make a rug!

{LEARN TO SEW!} with Madam Chino!

Madam Chino is teaching two workshops at the UWM Studio Arts and Craft center this October and November, listed on pages 9 and 12 in this fabulous class booklet! Each is two back-to-back evenings.

SEWING 101: TIPS AND TRICKS
WEDNESDAY & THURSDAY, OCTOBER 9th & 10th from 5:30-8pm
Beginning sewing for more than just beginners. Learn important sewing vocabulary, and the tips and tricks for efficient snipping and stitching. Create and reverse narrow strips without a hanger! Get even pleats without doing math! Get to know your household machine; use the many available machine feet to create various edgings, use it to sew on buttons and buttonholes, zippers, and to do professional looking hemming with ease. Create samples in addition to a lined satchel that applies these skills to take home.

PATTERN MAKING FUNDAMENTALS
WEDNESDAY & THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 6th & 7th from 5:30-8pm
Learn the basics of pattern making to create form-fitting patterns based on your own measurements! Apply anthropometrics to draft flat patterns that use simple graphing in addition to special darting techniques to bring 2-D into 3-D. Create a block pattern for future use and appropriation, and test it out on a stretch knit garment. Use draping techniques on a dress form to add-on to your item. Study your favorite garments and swipe patterns to recreate them!

Brady Street Local Art Market at Harley Fest
Looking for a limited number of vendors who are interested in vending at Harley Fest on Brady. They call it mini Sturgis for a reason - if you think Harley riders from across the country will be interested in buying your work-- shoot me an email!

Here are some details:

The market will be in the vacant lot on the corner of Brady and Warren Ave, right next to Jimmy John's.

It will be from 2:00 - 8:00pm on Friday, August 30th and Saturday August 31st. Load in will be from 12:00 - 1:30pm.

It is $50 to vend BOTH DATES. On a case by case basis I will consider vendors who would like to do just one day - the fee for ONLY ONE DAY is $35.

{BLUE PRINCE} Look Nook Drawing Plans

The original drawings for the LOOK NOOK space have been unearthed:

These are plans for quartered slats of wood rounds to be used for corner shelving. If only a chainsaw was available. This never came to fruition, but a good idea the same.


This is the room drawing. Look Nook originally started in a the small 6x10 foot room which slowly built out into the space where the shoe racks are.

The long awaited up-cycled T-shirt Color Chart was finally "nailed down" (appliqued actually), where each color is sampled in all it's variations and culled into files for the Madam Chino website.

Here is an image of the sample items.


These samples were then scanned into the computer to create very accurate color variation charts, one for each color, as a disclaimer for the possible outcomes of used shirts when choosing a product in any one color.

Finally, the pantones were selected for the best match, and currently color overlays are being produced for each product eventually appearing on the Madam Chino website as product photos! Lifestyle shoots are in the works on our tiny boat this summer!

The website is currently under construction but follow this link to a slideshow preview page and stay tuned.

{TAG} You're IT! at LOOK NOOK

Packaging adds novelty to any given thing. Take a piece of trash a put it in a package, and someone might treasure it more. From an eco-friendly maker and consumer who wants people to think about how objects come and go, this is a strange but important concept to recognize. To contain something in it's very own bubble gives it a newness that removes the process of making from the beholder, creating an awe/wonder of the objects' other-worldliness. A micro-environment of separateness (created by a label or a package) allows consumers to feel that same newness. It is important to create a space around each item, where each is competing for attention, to provide viewers with information. It also has a practical use of identifying and/or protecting the object.

A new tag punch was ascertained and Madam Chino has been steady creating new paper label spreadsheets with handwritten cleverly concocted names for the many novel items hand-made and available at LOOK NOOK!


ULINE is a great company to get little ziplock baggies for smaller items amidst many other shop supplies. They come in all shapes! These little 3x4's are great for earrings. Earrings are stuck into paper, slid into the zips, and printed templates tops are cut, bone-folded, hole punched, and stapled over the closed ziplock.


A ream of red cardstock was cut into strips and then further handcut into arrows with hold punches for hangers. Each unique vintage item is sharpie-labeled with name and price before setting to rack.


For more unique handmade items, photospreads are created like the one below, and the images are placed with special care tags and business cards inside of individual mini-ziplocks and pinned to hangers so that the image faces out. Many times, clothing is not done justice on a hanger, so the images assist viewers in seeing the object on a form at first sight


Really there are many tags that are necessary to properly perform the functions of informing for an object. There are care tags, size tags, inventory tags, labels/packaging tags, shipping tags, thank you tags, business card tags, and many variations in them for the type of objects suiting. Boy, a bar code scanner would be awesome.
